The Gimlet's origins trace back to the British Royal Navy in the late 1800s, where Surgeon Rear-Admiral Sir Thomas Gimlette reportedly prescribed gin mixed with lime juice to prevent scurvy among sailors. What started as medicine quickly became the officers' cocktail of choice.
